After years of providing free email services to our community, we are writing today with an important and difficult announcement: mail.hoofei.com will be permanently discontinuing its email service in the coming months. We want to be as transparent as possible about why we have made this decision, what the transition timeline looks like, and what steps you should take to ensure a smooth migration to a new email provider.
Since its launch, mail.hoofei.com has always been offered completely free of charge. However, running a reliable email platform requires continuous investment in server infrastructure, bandwidth, storage, security monitoring, and daily operations. These costs have grown far beyond what we can sustain independently. The world does not have truly free services — every platform must be supported by revenue, sponsorship, or investment. We explored subscription plans and partnerships, but ultimately could not find a viable path forward.
A portion of users registered accounts using usernames containing offensive or objectionable content. Despite automated and manual review efforts, the volume and persistence of this behavior has remained a significant ongoing challenge. This misuse creates a poor environment for legitimate users and damages the platform's overall reputation.
We have received multiple formal complaints reporting that mail.hoofei.com users were sending large volumes of unsolicited email. This behavior has severely damaged our domain's reputation — several major providers have flagged or blocklisted our domain, meaning even legitimate emails may not be delivered reliably. The volume of complaints has exceeded our capacity to effectively manage.
mail.hoofei.com will no longer accept incoming messages. Any email sent to username@hoofei.com address will be automatically rejected and the sender will receive a delivery failure notification. Notify your contacts of your new address before this date.
You will still be able to log in and use send and forward functions. Use this window to forward important emails to your new address, notify contacts of your address change, and retrieve information stored in your mailbox.
All remaining account data — including emails, contact lists, account settings, and any stored information — will be permanently and irreversibly deleted. There will be no possibility of data recovery after this date. All login access will also be permanently disabled.
Log in to your account and review your inbox, sent folder, and any other folders containing important correspondence. Forward critical emails to a new address or save them locally. Do not assume you can retrieve this data later — once the service shuts down on December 31, 2027, all data will be gone permanently.
If you used your hoofei.com address to register for banking, social media, e-commerce, government portals, or workplace tools, please log in to each service and update your registered email address immediately. Failure to do so may prevent you from receiving security notifications or resetting passwords in the future.
Send a message to your frequent contacts informing them of your new email address. Even if people have your phone number, sending a formal update ensures no important messages are lost after the service shuts down.
There are many reliable email services available, both free and paid. We recommend selecting one from a well-established provider that offers strong privacy protections, adequate storage, and long-term stability. Register your new account and begin transitioning your communications as soon as possible.
If you have saved contacts within your hoofei.com mail account, please export them before the service closes. Losing your contact list can be just as disruptive as losing your emails — do not overlook this step.
